Ladies and gentlemen, I'm just now finding out about a DMCA of the group that provides our base server work, Spigot. If you watch anything with the development community, Spigot is a slightly more robust modification of Craft Bukkit. With either item, we are able to use plugins that make each server so full of customization.
A DMCA is a claim that the writers infringed upon copyrights, plagiarized, or otherwise stole someone's hard work. While I severely don't believe that the developers over at Spigot are guilty of this, their legal counsel advised that they do not counter just yet. They had already gotten a developmental build of 1.8 out, but I have yet to get my hands on it. I'm hoping that I will be able to scour the 'net for it as they did provide a way for me to verify that a copy is a genuine copy.
On top of which, Mojang has mentioned that they have rights to Craft Bukkit, which Spigot is based off of. Dinnerbone and Grum both have control over the Bukkit project (as welcomed by EvilSeph, the former head developer). This may help Spigot in the long term as the DMCA claim was initiated after Mojang had the rights to it (approx. 2 years after). So we will see how it goes.
Due to other issues (such as development burnout, don't harass these amazing people over it, it's their choice), several of Bukkit's staff has resigned. While Mojang is developing/has developed it's own server based API for developers to work with, it may take a while for the bugs to be worked out of it.
So yet another thing to slow our update to 1.8. I will try to keep all of you informed as to when we can get updated to the 1.8. Other than that, stay frosty guys. That secret will come out soon enough.
